Product information

Origin:

Our Fleur de Sel comes from the salt-rich coastal waters of St. Helena Bay on the west coast of South Africa. Harvesting takes place in the traditional salt pans under strictly protected conditions – amidst a unique landscape, parts of which are designated as a nature reserve. Salt production contributes to the preservation of this sensitive ecosystem.

Quality:

As the finest form of sea salt, Fleur de Sel is produced only under optimal climatic conditions. Abundant sunshine, low humidity, and a gentle, constant breeze cause delicate crystals to form on the surface of the salt pans. These are harvested with meticulous care by hand – a true rarity that represents only a fraction of the total salt harvest. The salt is rich in natural minerals and trace elements and free of any additives.

Application:

With its fine, crisp texture and mild flavor, fleur de sel is ideal as a finishing salt for meat, fish, vegetables, or salads. It enhances every dish—whether in fine dining or everyday cooking—and brings out the flavors beautifully. It also makes an excellent gift.

Can:

The stoneware container not only impresses with its appearance, but also protects the salt from light and heat, thus preserving its quality.

Manufacturing and production processes:

The fine salt flakes form naturally on the surface of the salt pans on hot summer days, as soon as the brine reaches a salinity of over 250 g/l. In the late afternoon, the wafer-thin layer is carefully skimmed off by hand – a process that requires both experience and a keen sense of timing.

Sustainability:

The harvesting of Fleur de Sel is carried out in harmony with nature. Through collaboration with select salt pans, not only is a particularly pure product obtained, but a contribution is also made to protecting the local environment and preserving traditional craftsmanship.
